Kendra stood frozen with the phone pressed to her ear, eyes locked on mine, her face pale.

Then she swallowed and forced her voice steady.

“Hello…?”

Another pause.

“Yes, Mr. Blake. She’s here.”

My stomach dropped.

Kendra covered the receiver with her palm and hissed at me,

“He wants to talk to you. Now.”

My pulse spiked so hard it hurt.

I took the phone, fingers shaking.

“Hello?” I whispered.

My dad’s voice came through low, rough, too controlled.

“Sienna. Just checking in to know whether you got to Kendras safe”

“Alright sir.” I responded.

Silence.

Then—

“And you’re at Kendra’s.”

“Yes.”
