My heart slammed against my ribs at the sound of heavy footsteps.

I had strangers in my house.

Bolting up from the bed, my eyes scanned our bedroom, looking up the ceiling like it had the answers to why there were people in my fucking house.

Straining my ears again to catch any sound, I heard muffled voices before it went quiet.

Callum lay beside me, stiff as a board. Looking at him I could tell he wasn't asleep because he looked too performative laying there.

I swallowed hard, listening for any sounds but I didn't hear anything again. Maybe it's just my overactive imagination? Maybe I should...
