My phone rang.
I glanced at it without interest, letting the vibration hum against the table while I weighed the effort it would take to answer. Chances were, she would just talk more than necessary. But after the third ring, I realized the noise wasn’t going to stop, so I picked it up.
“Well, if it’s not my best friend,” Genesis’s voice blasted through the speaker. “You actually picked up. I thought you’d be too occupied to answer my calls.”
I took a slow sip of my black coffee, my tone flat. “I’m still your boss. Yet you keep calling me however you want. Is that appropriate to you?”...
