The convoy had been on the road for hours, engines growling like caged beasts as they tore through the night. My eyes hadn’t left the horizon once, the steady burn of the headlights cutting through the dark. Every mile between me and my son clawed at me.
Daniel sat in the passenger seat, his jaw tight, phone in hand. Frank followed behind in the next car with a squad of warriors. The rest of the team stretched in a line of black vehicles that looked more like an army than a search party.
