The heavy door creaked open. Laura didn't lift her head. She recognized that walk. Those footsteps that has been tormenting her ever since she was brought here.

"Leave us," he said to someone behind him.
Elise's voice came cold and sharp. "I'm not finished with her."
"I said leave."
Laura dimly heard Elise's heels click across the stone floor. The door slammed shut.
Now they were alone.
Kieran moved closer. Laura could smell him. Death mixed with something that used to be familiar. Something that used to be home.
