Midday sunlight breaches the frost-covered windows when I finally find Cole in the library. He’s on the second level, sipping a cup of blood while staring aimlessly out toward the horizon. He doesn’t look down at me as I storm into the room, the wide double doors slamming shut so hard the sound rattles the thousands of books tucked on their shelves.
I keep my eyes locked on him as I start up the staircase. “You motherfucker.”
“Hello to you, too,” he sighs, setting down his cup–crystal, now stained crimson.
