“Hey, Edmond, pass me that cooler over there. Mom’s gonna freak if we forget the drinks again.” I grabbed the handle from him as he shoved it into the back of the minivan, our fingers brushing just a second longer than they needed to.

It was one of those hot summer mornings where the air stuck to your skin, and already I could feel sweat trickling down my back under my tank top.
