Lilith's POV

I stood there in the dim light of the laundry room, fumbling with the zipper on my jeans as I waited for the dryer to finish its cycle, the hum of the machine filling the air like a constant low rumble that made my skin prickle a little from the vibration echoing off the walls. 

My arms were crossed over my chest, trying to shake off the chill that always seemed to seep into this basement space no matter how warm the dryers got, and I kept glancing at the door, half expecting someone to barge in and catch me in this vulnerable spot.
