My palms stayed sweaty no matter how many times I wiped them on my skirt. The elevator ride up to the twenty-third floor felt endless. New job jitters had me real bad today.

My heart kept thumping like it wanted out. I tried smiling in the mirror at home until my cheeks ached, but upon everything, it still looked kind of forced.
