Paxton would probably give me a disappointed look if I tilted my head to look at him, so I dropped the phone and huffed out air instead.

I anticipated this. 

Since I know Bryan so well, I am aware of how challenging and obstinate he can be. Just sitting idle and ignoring Paxton, I figured I should give it a shot.

He doesn't understand why I'm preventing him from assisting me. His life will be in jeopardy if he gets involved, and I can't take that chance. Paxton is another significant person in my life, thus I would rather let him go than lose him.
