I think my uncle didn't say this out of doubt but pretty much out of anger upon hearing this. He must have been so shocked and couldn't bear hearing more news that would cripple his heart.

He chased Enzo and Luca out of the room, promising to let Alexandro know if they didn't leave.

“Eleanor, we aren't giving up on getting you. We will fight for you and get you.” This was their last statement before they got out of sight. I'm pretty sure my uncle was going to make sure until they were out of the palace.
