Three days later, the sun broke through the mountain mist over Montreux, painting the snow-capped peaks in bright shades of rose gold and silver.

I sat on the sunlit terrace of our lakeside villa, wearing a soft cream sweater and dark trousers, with a warm cup of herbal tea resting on the iron table beside me. On my left hand, the blue diamond ring caught the morning light, sending small blue reflections dancing across the glass table.

Down in the lower garden, Lucas was running through the grass with Jaydon, teaching him how to kick a small leather soccer ball toward a pair of wooden posts....
