She turns, then gasps in surprise, almost dropping her phone. 

"I'll call you back," she says to whoever she was on the phone with, before returning the device to her handbag. Her eyes fill with tears as she steps closer. "Levi, son." 

From the corner of my eye, I notice Hailey stepping to the side, giving us space for our little reunion.

"Hi, mum," I repeat awkwardly, tucking my hands into my pockets.
