Miriam’s POV
The morning sunlight felt too bright. It streamed through the tall windows of Lazar’s penthouse like warm needles, poking at the back of my eyes. I blinked and sat up slowly. I had slept, but not rested. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the van doors slam shut, smelled the cold-metal air, felt the hands grabbing me.
Two weeks of rest. That was what Lazar insisted on.
But I was slowly losing my mind from just spending two days in the house.
