My mother sprung into action immediately we confirmed that Miriam had been taken. The men that we sent over to the house reported that the security at Miriam’s house were all dead and she was missing.

“How did this happen?” I asked my mother on the car ride over. “The security is supposed to be tight over there.”

“It was obviously breached, Serena. That’s why you have to stay by my side at all times. If I tell you to stay put, you stay put. It’s for your own good.”

“Where were you this morning? I kept calling you, but you didn’t pick.”
