I kept waiting for Eli to bring it up and he didn’t, so I didn’t either. That’s the thing about us, we’ve always been good at letting things sit without forcing them. But this particular thing didn’t sit quietly. I’d be in the middle of a workday, adjusting kerning on some corporate letterhead, and it would surface. The agreement. The handshake. The way he’d smiled after. I’d push it back down and return to my screen and ten minutes later there it was again, like a song stuck in your head that you can’t place.
