“Do you think I’d just let you go?” he sneered, his grip on my chin tightening.

Dread settled deep in my chest. What am I going to do?

I started shouting desperately, hoping someone, anyone, would hear me and come running. “Help! Somebody help me!”

But the man’s smile only widened, dark and satisfied. “No one is going to hear you, sweetheart. I made sure of that.”
