Becky stepped into the kitchen and took in the man who sat at the counter with his head in his hands. It had been a harrowing afternoon and she’d learned a lot about the man sitting there. He was an impatient bully who swore like a sailor, but when he looked at Abby, she could see the beginning cracks in his armor.
