The night air was sharp as we pulled out of the driveway. The streets were too empty, and my grip on the steering wheel was tighter than I realized.
I should’ve been focused on the road, on the fact that my sister, Brooke, might be fighting for her life. Instead, my mind was sprinting in a thousand directions.
I knew Brooke too well—knew her like I knew my own reflection. Every fake smile, every forced tear she’d ever used to get her way. The thought slipped into my head before I could stop it.
