"Plasma blast," Lyn said, his voice tight with recognition. "Superheated energy projected as a weapon. That's not a common ability."

"I think that's Shawn," I said, scanning the tree line on either side of the road. "Lyn, can you reach him? Tell him we're friendlies?"

But Lyn was already focused inward, his eyes slightly unfocused as he projected mentally toward wherever Shawn was hiding.
