The alarm bells were still clanging in my ears as I moved through the lower corridors, my long strides forcing Clarabel to run to keep up with me practically.

The air down here was cold, but my skin was burning. My pulse hammered against my throat, not just from the sudden threat of an intruder, but from the hot pull that had almost brought her lips against mine seconds ago in her office.

Neither of us spoke a word about it. She kept her eyes glued ahead, her face flushed red, while I kept my jaw locked so tight my teeth ached.
