My hand remained gripped tightly around the young maiden’s chin, the flat edge of my dagger still resting against her trembling throat. But my eyes left her pale face entirely, snapping over to Monica who was leaning against my doorway.
Her dark eyes glittered with a lazy, mocking amusement as she looked down at the servant crying on my floor.
"Let the girl go, Greenwood," Monica said softly, taking a slow step into the room. "She knows nothing. If you want to scream at someone, scream at me."
