The glow from Daisy’s laptop screen was the only light in her dorm room. The rest of the space was dark except for the faint outline of her roommate’s bed across from hers. She sat cross-legged on her own bed, a blanket pulled over her shoulders, phone pressed to her ear while the video call on the laptop stayed open. Jordan’s face filled the screen, his hair messy like he’d just rolled out of bed.
“It’s late,” he said with a sleepy grin, his voice soft so he wouldn’t wake his family. “Shouldn’t you be asleep?”
