I'm a bird watcher. It's a popular hobby with many folks interested in the environment although some people consider it a weird or niche activity. About ten years ago, I became interested in the many different types of ducks on a pond near our house. There were northern shovelers, black ducks, ring necked ducks, two kinds of teal, snow geese, trumpeter swans, pintails, canvasbacks and more. My interest expanded and I found I enjoyed differentiating between the many species of birds living around us.
