"Deal?" The voice laughed. "So soon? Are you that desperate?"

"Desperate?" I scoffed in annoyance. "Who's been the one blowing my phone up with stupid texts? Which one of us is desperate now?"

"Cocky." a click of the tongue. almost human.

I rolled my eyes. "Look, this is going to be on my terms."

"But of course."

"Don't text me unless I text you first, and unless it's absolutely necessary. And of course, I'm going to be the first to call, not that you can call me, anyway."
