I don’t have to look at the clock on the mantel to know that it is a little after two, because my club has gone still and quiet. Even in my office, sitting at my desk, going over his accounts, I can hear the hum of activity, feel the shimmering thrill of interest returned, and sense the moment when two lonely souls realize that for a few hours at least, the loneliness will cease to matter.
