Vera’s POV:

For the first time in a long time, I was completely terrified. This was the kind of fear that crawled beneath your skin and made you close your eyes in disbelief.

I stared blankly as Cassian calmly sat down beside me, and then, when he spoke, I flinched,

“There she is,” he murmured softly. “There’s my little Vera.”

I was still too shocked to move or even think when the man in the driver’s seat started the car and started to drive. All my attention was on Cassian, who was smiling at me as though he hadn’t just attacked my guard and forced himself into my car.
