The moment Vera and I stepped inside the building together, the atmosphere around the company halls changed completely. People, probably employees, began to stare openly at us. Assistants froze and dropped whatever files they were holding the moment they saw us.

Even the receptionists looked shocked. It took me a couple of seconds more to realize that they weren’t shocked at the sight of Vera. No, they were shocked because of me.
