The taxi pulled up in front of a magnificent gate that looked more like the entrance to a luxury resort than a residential community.
Above it, a sleek metal sign read: THE HAVEN RESIDENCES.
“I can only stop here, miss,” the driver said, turning slightly. “Taxis are not allowed to go any further.”
I nodded in understanding. “It’s okay.”
“I understand,” I nodded.
After paying the fare, I stepped out, and the cab pulled away.
I approached the gate. As I neared, the glass window of the security booth slid open with a soft click, and a guard leaned out.
“How can we help you, miss?” he asked politely....
