  “Please, Levi, you have to untie me now.

  This isn’t funny anymore.”

  My voice shook as I said those words, coming out in a rush because the ropes around my wrists pulled tight against the back of the wooden chair every time I tugged at them.

  The spreader bar clamped between my ankles forced my legs open wide, keeping my bare feet pressed flat against the hardwood floor of his room, and the position made my thighs burn from the constant strain.
