"Step out of the vehicle, sir," I commanded, my voice firm and authoritative as I rapped my knuckles against the driver's side window of his sleek black sedan, the red and blue lights from my cruiser flashing across the empty roadside in rhythmic pulses that cut through the night.

The highway stretched out dark and deserted behind us, not a single car in sight since I'd flipped on the sirens a mile back, pulling him over for that suspiciously fast swerve he'd done around the last bend.
