While Damian was busy driving the car, one of his hands rested on his thigh and the man held one of his hands. It's just cool to see that one hand was used to operate the vehicle. He knew that what Damian had done was a bit dangerous, but he would never reprimand him. Also, there were very few vehicles on the road they took home.
