The morning light spilled through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, casting long golden streaks across the dining table. The smell of fresh coffee and warm pastries filled the air, but I wasn't hungry.
Not for food, anyway.
I sat across from Freddy, my fingers curled around a porcelain cup, the heat from the coffee grounding me. He, on the other hand, looked completely at ease, dressed in one of his tailored black shirts, sipping his coffee like we were just another rich couple having breakfast.
