I reached over and ruffled his hair, making him groan and swat my hand away. “Ugh, come on, I just fixed it!”
I chuckled. “Gotta remind you who’s boss.”
We pulled up to the school, the large brick building buzzing with students arriving for the day. Sandy unbuckled his seatbelt and grabbed his bag.
“Alright, have a good day,” I said as he opened the door.
He paused, glancing back at me. “Hey, Dad?”
“Yeah?”
A small smile tugged at his lips. “I don’t say it enough, but… I’m glad we have this life. That we’re normal.”
