The ward was not small, so Dorothy could hear her own voice echo back. However, she did not hear the man's response.

She walked through the brightly lit ward towards the hospital bed. There was only a messy quilt on the bed, but there was no one in sight.

Just then, she heard the soft sound of water flushing.

Dorothy turned around and saw that the sound was coming from behind the half-closed bathroom door. Through the narrow gap, she could see a man's figure. His back was faced towards her and she could faintly hear the sound of ceramics hitting against each other.
