She turned her head to see Martinez down the hall surrounded by his new manager and his bodyguards.

She noticed that the bodyguards were fewer than he normally had.

She supposed he had to keep up pretenses because she of all people knew that he could no longer afford them.

He could barely afford the clothes on his back as he was so neck-deep in debt that she was sure he wouldn't finish paying for them in a decade, even if he decided to straighten up and do better.

Since that didn't seem to be in the cards anytime...
