Darkness. That was the first thing I felt.
It wrapped around me like a heavy cloak, choking the air from my lungs. My body was numb, but not from sleep. The ache in my limbs told me I'd been moved, dragged, maybe. I tried to open my eyes, but the pounding in my skull made it nearly as impossible.
I blinked through the haze. A dim light flickered from a lantern nailed into the far wall. Stone. Cold, grey stone surrounded me. I was in some kind of underground room, a cellar, maybe, or a dungeon. My hands were chained above me, the metal biting into my wrists.
