His eyes fluttered open.
Not beastly. Not hollow.
Just tired. Human. Familiar.
My father’s chest rose and fell slowly, the agony etched into his every breath, but the madness was gone. The corruption burned away by the silver fire I didn’t even know I possessed.
I knelt beside him, pressing both hands to his chest, letting the lunar warmth flow from my palms to his skin. His veins glowed faintly beneath the surface, not like the pulsing darkness before, but like starlight winding its way through shadow.
Gannon stood nearby, watchful but calm. He’d seen me fight. But this… this was different.
“I’m here,” I whispered. “You’re safe...
