“Mother, why is our life so hard?”

“Because we are at the bottom but you see my child the greatest people aren’t those who find life easy the greatest are those who overcome challenges and step to the top. So you see we may not be at the bottom forever.” She smiled, comforting my little heart.

And those words stuck.

Those were the words I asked my mother as a young six year old child new to the world I was born into and the reply of my mother's response. For the coming days I’ve been watched like a hawk, my tasks multiplied and my food meagerly portioned....
