“That’s new. You calling people ‘darling’ now?”

Leo’s voice comes from behind a raised coffee mug, smug and just annoying enough to make Reo wish he’d walked in five seconds later.

Reo freezes halfway into the kitchen. His hand is still outstretched, and the words that came out of his mouth are still in the air like fog that won’t clear.

Jennie blinks.

She’s at the counter, pouring oat milk into Blue’s little bear-shaped cup. She doesn’t move at first. Just stares at him like she didn’t hear him right. But she did. They all did.

Reo clears his throat and looks anywhere but her face. “It slipped.”
