“You’re not as clever as you think you are, Adele.”
Reo says it slowly. Flat. Almost bored. But his eyes never blink. And that’s what makes her nervous.
Adele freezes mid-pour—she’s standing in the kitchen, wearing a silk robe and stirring way too much honey into her tea like she’s auditioning for a housewife commercial. Her fingers twitch. Her lips tighten.
She doesn’t look up. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Reo leans against the kitchen island, tossing his phone down with a soft thud. The screen is black now, but she saw what was on it moments ago.
