Reo’s voice cuts through the courtyard like a blunt blade.
Jennie freezes near the stone path. The garden lights behind her glow dim yellow, and her phone is still in her hand. Her face goes pale, and Reo sees it. Sees it all. The shock. The hesitation. The guilt. Or is it just fear?
He walks forward, boots scraping gravel. His shoulders are taut and his fists are already curling.
