Jennie’s shaky voice cuts through the air like lightning, and it's loud enough to stun the man in front of her. The plaza is busy, noisy, full of people, yet somehow the sound feels muffled. The moment stretches. Her hands are trembling. But she doesn't run. She doesn’t scream.
The masked figure lunges again. His movements are even rushed and sloppy, but he's a man on a mission. His boots slam the ground. His gloved fingers reach for her bag. No, not the bag. Her wrist. Her waist.
She jerks back, stumbles once, then plants her feet.
