“Effective immediately, no more unscheduled visitors.”
Blair’s voice silences the quiet. I blink up from my place on the sunroom couch. Blue is curled against my side, and his crayon-streaked fingers are still gripping a sheet of half-colored construction paper. She stands tall at the archway with her heels firm on the tile and a clipboard in hand like some savvy, corporate nanny.
“You’re implementing rules now?” I ask. I try to keep my tone neutral and calm, mostly for Blue’s sake.
“I’m implementing structure,” she corrects. “It’s what Mr. Leo requested in his absence.”
I don’t believe her, but I don’t fight her. Not yet.
