“Rawr?” Blue sniffles from the crib. His voice is groggy and wet like it just rolled out of a dream.

Reo’s chest tightens as he stands in the doorway. The shadows from the hall bleed into the nursery like fog. He was just passing by. He always is. But something about the way Blue’s little voice cracks…like he’s searching for something safe in the dark…pulls him in like a tide.

He crosses the room slowly.

Blue’s hair is messy and his cheeks are lightened pink. His fists rub at his eyes as he whines again, softer this time. “Rawr…”
