"I'm sure you're right," Zach replies. His voice rings with tender confidence that dad will never harm his own child. "It's just that he knows about you, and he's close to you. It's protocol to search your house. That's all."

Me and dad talked first thing when I woke up this morning, and I can still hear the fear and relief in his voice. He didn't say a word about warriors from the King showing up to search the house. If it's a secret and impromptu, then he probably didn't know about it.

We'll meet before sunset. I'm sure he'll tell me...
