When I stepped out of the car and made my way into the hospital's corridor, Nathan walked up to me looking anxious. He asked about Vera first, his eyes darting between my face and the entrance, like he was bracing for more bad news.
He looked really shaken by what had happened to the investigator, and I couldn’t blame him. He blocked my path, determined to get answers before allowing me to go any farther.
"Why didn’t she come with you? You said she’s fine," he asked again.
"I locked her up in the safest place in the world," I replied dryly, continuing toward the waiting area.
