Jenny let out an excited laugh. “Carla! Look at you! And?”

“He was… charming. Handsome too.”

“Girl, you’re beautiful, sweetheart. Men will always run after you,” Jenny said, her tone playful but laced with affection. Then, her voice took on a teasing edge. “You made it known to him that you’re married, did you not?”

There was a pause. Carla’s hand tightened slightly around the phone as she looked out at the glittering city lights. She hesitated long enough for Jenny to notice.
