Six months later…

Carla sat on the edge of the bed, running a hand over her slightly swollen belly. The pregnancy had come as a surprise, but a welcome one. She sighed softly, rubbing circles over her stomach, feeling the gentle flutter of movement inside her.

She was pregnant again.

A soft giggle rang through the room, and Carla turned her head to see Dom, now almost two years old, standing in the doorway. His bright eyes—so much like his father’s—sparkled with mischief as he clutched his favorite stuffed lion.

“Mama!” he called, running toward her with wobbly little steps.
