"William... you're not coming again today?"
Evelyn’s voice was soft over the phone, nearly trembling.
On the other end, William was silent for a moment. His voice sounded tired.
“Sorry. There were a lot of sudden meetings.”
“It’s been three days,” Evelyn whispered. “You haven’t answered my calls, haven’t replied to my messages…”
“Sorry,” William repeated, this time colder. “I have to get back to work.”
